VOX Cultural Digest, Issue N.10

The Christmas season is over, but the winter season is in full swing! 

We have compiled a list of things you could do in Zurich and around this February: from art to literature, as well outdoor activities, light festivals, health, science, and more!  

Winter Arena

Experience winter magic without having to leave the city center: the Winter Arena has lots to offer: its own city forest, igloo bar, sports lounge, fondue chalet, mountain terrace, and food mile!

100 years of Swiss literature and more

135 authors, 100 years, 4 languages – experience a unique journey through Swiss literature in just one evening at the Literaturhaus!

When: on 1 February or a different lecture/event on selected dates in February 

Wars, Societies, and Neon

The installation by Welsh artist Bethan Huws in the crypt of Zurich’s Grossmünster. It responds precisely and in many ways to the history and spirit of the place. 

Where: Krypta Grossmünster
When: until 27. February, from 10:00 till 17:00 

Health – 7000 years of healing

An interactive exhibition about the history of medicine – from the Stone Age to the present day.

Where: Kulturama, Museum of Man 
When: until 30 April 2022, in English and German

Switzerland in World Format

Comprising around 80 reprinted posters, the exhibition invites visitors to take an inspiring and surprising stroll through Swiss poster history.

Geneva Lux

In case you missed the light festival in Lucerne, there is one more taking place in Geneva.

Waves

Let yourself be carried away and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of waves – in nature, art, everyday life, and research. Please bring your own headphones, if possible.

A Swiss Artist in North America

In 1832, the young Zurich painter Karl Bodmer traveled to Upper Missouri with the naturalist Prince Maximilian zu Wied. Among the highlights of the two-year journey were the encounters with the indigenous population. The prince wrote, the painter illustrated.

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE 

Viva Frida Kahlo – Immersive Experience is an opportunity for visitors to get closer to the artist than ever before. The audio-visual installation features a light show of projections from the renowned Mexican painter’s most famous works. The immersive sound and light experience has been extended until 27.02.2022 due to great success.

GIVE AND TAKE

The Give&Take exchange returns to the Climate Pavilion from 3 January till mid-February! Located in central locations in Winterthur and Zurich Give&Take is the house of giving, where everybody can bring everything, what others can still use and can take what they like. According to the slogan: Give&Take – so that things live longer!

Manga Movies

Filmpodium is showing a small selection of manga adaptations for the big screen, from classics like Akira and Nausicaä from the Valley of the Winds to Zurich cinema premieres of In This Corner of the World and Ichi the Killer.

Where: Filmpodium, in Japanese with German subtitles
